2016 In-Store Programs Updates!

Hi friends,

Thanks to the overwhelming support we continue to receive from both organizers such as yourself, and the Magic: the Gathering community as a whole, 2015 has been an amazing year for StarCityGames.com In-Store Programs.

Based on a combination of your feedback, and the significant amount of data we track internally, we’ve decided to make a number of changes to our 2016 In-Store Programs offering, starting with…

GAME NIGHT (#SCGGameNight)

In 2015, StarCityGames.com has released three (3) Creature Collection products and one (1) Parody Collection product per quarter, with each month’s Game Night marketing and prize support themed around the corresponding month’s Creature Collection product release.

However, on average, our Parody Collection products have turned out to be far more popular than our generic Creature Collection products, so in 2016, we‘ll be reversing the frequency of those releases; lowering the number of Creature Collection releases to one (1) per quarter and increasing the number of Parody Collection releases to three (3) per quarter. Starting in 2016, Game Night’s marketing and prize support will also change to mirror each month’s all-new Parody Collection release!

Also, many of you have requested we add PayPal as an Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) payment option, and I’m pleased to announce that option is now in place. More information on using PayPal as your Automated Recurring Billing (ARB) payment option can be found within Organizer Tools.

OPEN TRIALS

Our Open Trial program was originally created to ensure smaller organizers had access to a StarCityGames.com In-Store Programs (ISP) option at a $100 price point. However, that void has since largely been filled by Game Night (which offers organizers of all sizes 4-5 events a month at approximately the same price point) and there simply wasn’t enough interest in Open Trials to justify continued support for the program. As such, we will be discontinuing our Open Trial program at the end of this year in order to more heavily focus on our other In-Store Programs such as Game Night and…

INVITATIONAL QUALIFIERS (IQs)

IQs give players a chance to qualify for their choice of several upcoming StarCityGames.com Invitationals at their local store, and many players have done exactly that. However, because the inclusion of Open Points in IQs has not produced the intended results, 2016 IQs will no longer award Open Points and return to being events at which players must win in order to earn their seat at an upcoming Invitational.

Based on your feedback, next year’s IQ kits will include a number of upgrades:

  1. (+1) StarCityGames.com Judge Rewards Program judge token

Previously only available to judges who worked an Open Series weekend or StarCityGames.com-run Grand Prix, next year’s IQ kits will include one (1) StarCityGames.com Judge Rewards Program judge token. This token must be given to a judge who worked that IQ, but which judge receives it is entirely up to you.

  1. (-8) Invitational Token (FOIL), (+25) Invitational Token (non-foil)

The feedback we’ve received from both organizers and players alike has been fairly consistent in regards to our Invitational tokens; players love them, but are mostly indifferent to them being foil or non-foil. This change gives IQ organizers the ability to put more Invitational tokens in the hands of more players, but how you do so is entirely up to you.

  1. (+1) Retired Open Series playmat*

Each IQ kit will now include one retired Open Series playmat* to be given away as a random door prize at the end of Round Three. And we couldn’t think of a more purrrrrrfect retired Open Series playmat to include than this one:

And speaking of playmats, check out the latest Invitational Qualifier playmat – eight (8) copies of which will be included in all 2016 Q1 IQ kits!

Pick Your Battles

Our January 2016 scheduling window is now open so please visit Organizer Tools to schedule your Invitational Qualifiers for the first month of the new year!

Of course bigger events warrant bigger upgrades, and bigger upgrades are exactly what we’re making to our:

SUPER INVITATIONAL QUALIFIERS (Super IQs)

Super IQs will also no longer award Open Points and return to being events at which players must make the finals to earn one of the two Invitational slots offered at each Super IQ.

And, based on your feedback, next year’s Super IQ kits will also include a number of upgrades:

  1. (+2) StarCityGames.com Judge Rewards Program judge token

Previously only available to judges who worked an Open Series weekend or StarCityGames.com-run Grand Prix, next year’s Super IQ kits will include two (2) StarCityGames.com Judge Rewards Program judge tokens. Both tokens must be given to judges who worked that Super IQ, but which judges receive them is entirely up to you.

  1. (-12) Invitational Token (FOIL), (+25) Invitational Token (non-foil)

As previously mentioned, the feedback we’ve received from both organizers and players alike has been fairly consistent in regards to our Invitational tokens; players love them, but are mostly indifferent to them being foil or non-foil. This change gives Super IQ organizers the ability to put more Invitational tokens in the hands of more players, but how you do so is entirely up to you.

  1. (+2) Retired Open Series playmats*

Each Super IQ kit will now include two retired Open Series playmats*; Tasipurr the Golden Paw to given away as a random door prize at the end of Round Three and a second playmat to be given away as a random door prize at the end of Round Four. Be careful though; the second one packs quite a punch!

ELITE INVITATIONAL QUALIFIERS (Elite IQs)

Our Elite IQ program was originally created to ensure organizers who’d had success with Super IQs could continue to progress and host even larger events. However, the majority of our successful Super IQ organizers simply couldn’t accommodate events much larger than a Super IQ without having to host them outside of their store so they opted to continue running Super IQs instead. Because that scenario tended to be the rule rather than the exception, we will be discontinuing our Elite IQ program at the end of this year in order to more heavily focus on our other In-Store Programs.

Thank you for your continued support of StarCityGames.com’s In-Store Programs, and we’re looking forward to a great 2016!

Best wishes,
