How do I find a judge for my event?

Finding a judge for your events can be a daunting task. Luckily, there are many resources out there to help you connect with the many judges in the program!

How do you go about finding the right one for your location? The first, and easiest way, is to simply ask around. Your local players, especially those who travel around to large events like Open Series or Grand Prix have probably come into contact with Judges and may even be friends with one. Having someone you both know to introduce you can make things go very quickly.

If you can’t find any leads locally, you can contact the In-Store Programs Team and we will assist you in finding a judge. Thanks to the Open Series, we know many judges from around the world and can use those as a resource to help in search. We will also be happy to introduce you to one of the best resources at your disposal, your Regional Coordinator (RC).

RCs are high level judges selected for their work in their local communities who help judges and store owners in all aspects of running Magic Tournaments. Your RC will be able to put you in contact with the judges in your area or help you (or someone at your store) get certified as a Level 1 Judge. A full list of RCs is available here.

Speaking of certification, one way to guarantee you always have a judge handy is to get certified yourself or have one of your employees become certified. Not only will it save you from having to contact and compensate an outside person, your store will be known for having a judge on staff!  Players will feel more comfortable playing at your store when they know a judge is around, even when they’re playing casually with friends
