Last Friday, StarCityGames.com® President Pete Hoefling announced some significant improvements to 2019’s SCG Tour, including the eagerly anticipated return of our year-end StarCityGames.com® Players’ Championship!
Today, we’re excited to announce some improvements to 2019’s StarCityGames.com® Invitational Qualifier (IQ) program as well!
A Path to the StarCityGames.com® Players’ Championship
In addition to each IQ already qualifying its top two finishers for that season’s $100,000 Invitational at SCG CON, and awarding valuable SCG Points needed by players trying to qualify by earning fifteen (15) SCG Points within a season, the SCG Points offered at IQs will once again also be sought after by players seeking to secure a seat at the year-end StarCityGames.com® Players’ Championship and give more players a reason to participate in your events!
December 2018 IQ Kit Contents
Invitational Qualifiers held between December 15-31, 2018 are considered to be part of 2019’s Q1 for scheduling purposes and will contain the updated kit contents (including Ultimate Guard® deck boxes!) listed elsewhere on this page. However, please note that the playmat and token artworks will not be updated until January, and we are unable to add store logos to playmats for IQs taking place during this time. As a bonus, all IQs occurring between December 15-31 will be automatically upgraded to IQ Plus kits at no additional cost to our organizers!
Increased Scheduling Flexibility
To date, we have used “a four-hour drive of the next closest IQ” as our criteria for determining the blackout radius for each event. However, because we consistently found that to be a bit excessive, we have modified our criteria to “a three-hour drive of the next closest IQ” for events starting in January in order to give organizers more flexibility to schedule IQs on dates that work best for both the organizers and their player communities. As a result of this change, we no longer believe Priority Scheduling, and by extension Organizer Points (which were only used for Priority Scheduling purposes), are needed and will sunset both as of January, 2019.
Increased Maximum Entry Fees…
Based on organizer feedback, and starting with 2019 Season One, we have increased the maximum entry fee organizers may charge for IQ events from $30 to $35.
… But No Increased IQ Fees for Organizers!
One of our goals in making all of the improvements outlined above was to offer our IQ organizers additional value while keeping any IQ fee increases as low as possible. So we were incredibly happy to come up with a plan that enabled us to offer additional value to our IQ organizers while not requiring any increase in IQ fees!
However, because 2018’s average IQ attendance has consistently been higher than the minimum attendance requirement that’d make an IQ eligible for our “SCG Guarantee”, we have decided to discontinue that aspect of our IQ program and reallocate the resources its maintenance previously required towards further improving the program as a whole.
